Our School App Stay connected on the go...
In the Physics department, we aim to:
- Stimulate an interest in and enjoyment of Physics.
- To foster an understanding of the importance of Physics in the modern world.
- To encourage the development of practical and analytical skills through regular, relevant practical work.
All students will be given a login for the online text book on Kerboodle, which covers all courses.
Further course details and past papers can be found on the AQA website https://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/gcse/physics-8463.
Click the links for AQA Combined Science Trilogy or Physics.
BBC Bitesize has useful revision for Units 1 and 2 of the course. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/aqa/
Science Lab has useful revision - http://www.sciencelab.org.uk/resourcezone/physics.php.
Year 10 students in sets 3-5 will be offered the opportunity to attend ‘Science Live’ lectures.
There may be further opportunities to attend lectures and triple science days later in the year.
Our Students Say:
‘Can you give us a bigger shock’ – with regard to the Van De Graff Generator.
Years 10 - 11
We study the AQA specification at GCSE. Students will sit external examinations for this in the summer of Year 11. Students are entered either for Triple Science or Combined Science GCSEs. We encourage the development of knowledge and understanding in Physics by providing the students with opportunities for working scientifically. We will complete a number of practical activities throughout the course. Students will need to be able to recall these practicals in the examinations.
We also recommend buying a copy of the CGP revision guide for AQA Physics. This is available through Parent Pay. The students have access to the online textbook on the Kerboodle website.
Topics we cover are:
- 4.1 Energy
- 4.2 Electricity
- 4.3 Particle Model
- 4.4 Atomic Structure
- 4.5 Forces
- 4.6 Waves
- 4.7 Electo & Magnetism
- 4.8 Space Physics (Physics only)
- 4.9 Key Ideas
Why study Physics?
Physics is a stepping stone to future study, which allows students to get hands on experimental practical experience, at the same time as developing theoretical analysis and the skills needed for analysing and interpreting data. It will inspire students, nurture a passion for Physics and lay the groundwork for further study in science or engineering.
Science, engineering, mathematics and Law all value a Physics A-Level very highly.
